Time capsules preserve moments in time of curated history, information, and everyday objects with the purpose of connecting the future generation to the past. Through human interaction, a space or environment itself is a living, breathing, entity that we treat in a similar fashion as human beings. Maintenance keeps these spaces alive and healthy similar to a visit to a doctor's office or a gym. What purpose does a space hold when its original functionality or relationship to society has been removed or changed? We are left with a space that metaphorically dies and begins the decomposing process similar to the human body. What's left are the snapshots of memories and stories that were once created in these spaces.
